Construction Materials Laboratory Technicians

Working within the laboratory environment testing construction materials that include: natural stone, sands, soils, recycled materials, concrete and bituminous products.

Strong focus on Quality and Health & Safety.

Previous experience / knowledge of working within the laboratory environment or construction industry is preferred but not essential as full in house training is provided.

 



Construction Materials Site Technicians

Visiting construction sites across the South of England to carry out in situ construction materials testing / monitoring / sampling materials that include: natural stone, sands, soils, recycled materials, fresh concrete and bituminous products.

Strong focus on Quality and Health & safety.

Previous experience / knowledge of working within the construction industry is preferred but not essential as full in house training is provided.
Full Driving Licence essential.

 


 

Collection/Delivery Drivers
Visiting construction sites across the South of England to collect construction materials that include hardened concrete products, natural stone, sands, soils, recycled materials, and bituminous products.
Previous experience / knowledge of working within the construction industry is preferred but not essential as full in house training is provided.

Full Driving Licence essential.

 


 

Technical Administration / Typists
Working within the busy laboratory administration offices at ACS Testing Ltd
Duties will include:

o Registering samples and test specimens into our LIMS system
o Typing and reporting factual certificates for tests carried out on various construction materials within our laboratories
o Compiling reports
o E-mailing results to clients
o Telephone calls
o Taking orders from clients
o General office duties
 
Previous office experience and working within the construction industry are preferred but not essential as full in house training is provided.

 


 

Technical Sales Representatives
Administration of existing customer requirements and maintaining relationships.

Seek profitable opportunities for developing the business through contact with existing and potential clients.

Liaise with the Laboratory management to ensure that client requirements can be met.

Ensure that clients testing requirements are understood, agreed and documented, and all quotations for work are entered on the company LIMS system.

Actively seek and record client feedback and liaise with laboratory management to ensure continuous improvements.

Ensure that, in carrying out these duties, the requirements of the Quality System are met.

 


 

Laboratory Technicians
Preparation of soil and water samples.

Conducting of testing of soil and water samples as required.

Recording data into a LIMS including analytical and quality control results.

Operation and control of laboratory instruments.

Day to day laboratory work including administration and general housekeeping activities as required.

Collection of samples / site visits as required.

Ensuring that the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, the Quality Manual and, where applicable, the Environment Agency MCERTS Performance Standard for Chemical Testing of Soil are met.

 


 

Laboratory Analysts
Preparation of soil and water samples.

Preparation of standards and calibration of instrumentation.

Conducting of testing of soil and water samples as required.

Evaluating quality control data.

Recording data into a LIMS including analytical and quality control results.

Operation and control of laboratory instruments.

Conducting method validation and processing of data.

Day to day laboratory work including administration and general housekeeping activities as required.

Ensuring that the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, the Quality Manual and, where applicable, the Environment Agency MCERTS Performance Standard for Chemical Testing of Soil are met.

 


 

Chemical Laboratory Supervisors / Managers
Day to day management of chemistry related activities.

General monitoring and control of the daily throughput of work

Overseeing the testing activities to ensure that samples are progressed through the laboratory in a timely manner.

Interaction with quality manager on all chemical qc, aqc and data control matters.

Checking quality control data and evaluation of control charts.

Training of staff.

Validation of test results within a LIMS.

Monitoring actions and investigations relating to proficiency testing.

Approval of technical documentation prior to passing to Quality Manager for issue.

Evaluation of competence of staff and authorisation to conduct specific tests.

Organisation of corrective and preventive action in response to local needs and requirements of the management system.

Ensuring that the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, the Quality Manual and, where applicable, the Environment Agency MCERTS Performance Standard for Chemical Testing of Soil are met.

 


 

Technical Supervisors
Supervise the day to day analytical activities of the Laboratory and to ensure that the Quality System is implemented by all Staff working under their direction.

Responsible for the technical operation of the Laboratory and for ensuring that ISO17025 requirements are met.

Provide technical support to analysts and Technicians.

Responsibility for the progress of samples within the Laboratory.

Ensure that all analytical requirements and expectations of the Client are met in agreed timescales.

Assist the Laboratory Manager and Quality Manager in the writing and technical review of technical documentation.

Ensure that Analysts and Technicians use defined methods and procedures to analyse test items.

Liaise with the Laboratory Manager and Quality Manager to ensure that UKAS related records are maintained.

Ensure that operations are carried out safely and that the laboratory housekeeping is maintained to an acceptable and safe standard.

Ensure that internal Equipment calibrations are carried out following appropriate procedures.

Liaise with Staff to ensure that Personal Training documentation is maintained.

Qualifications: 
The holder of the position of Technical Supervisor must have a relevant degree in chemistry, management, or other science based subject. He/she would preferably have at least 5 years’ experience of working in a Laboratory environment and at least 3 years supervisory experience. A working knowledge of Quality Systems is essential. A sound scientific understanding and overview of ACSE Testing Services is essential.

 


 

QA Administrators                       
Liaising with the quality manager and laboratory staff on all aspects of the laboratory’s ISO 17025 accreditation for soils and waters.

Ensuring that the requirements of the company quality manual and management system is operated and followed at all times.

Assisting the quality manager in issuing, implementing and maintaining all controlled manuals and quality management system documentation.

Assisting the quality manager in conducting and/or overseeing internal and external audits in accordance with predetermined schedules.

Ensuring that improvement, corrective and preventive actions are implemented and monitored for effectiveness.

Ensuring that all laboratory instruments and equipment are calibrated and maintained in accordance with relevant standards and documented procedures.

Ensuring that the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025, the Quality Manual and, where applicable, the Environment Agency MCERTS Performance Standard for Chemical Testing of Soil are met.

 


 

Concrete Technicians
Carrying out UKAS accredited concrete sampling and testing in accordance with relevant standards at client sites and within the laboratory.

Completion of test sheets including calculations.

Ensuring test equipment is checked, cleaned and maintained to an acceptable level.

Due to the travel required, a driving licence is essential for this role.

 



Concrete Technologists

Carrying out in-situ materials testing and concrete investigation surveys as a member of a site team in accordance with relevant standards.

Laboratory assistance, including UKAS accredited concrete testing to relevant standards.

Communicating regularly and effectively with internal/external clients/concrete technicians on testing requirements.

Assisting in the collation of information to write factual technical reports.

Ensuring that adequate and proper records are kept and filed correctly to satisfy the requirements of the laboratory management system and UKAS requirements.

Due to the travel required, a driving licence is essential for this role.

 


 

Geotechnical Engineers
Co-ordinating ground investigations.

Logging boreholes & trial pits & scheduling geotechnical testing.

Preparing factual and interpretative reports.

Assessment of geotechnical parameters.

Foundation design.

Geo-Environmental Engineers

Preparing Desk Study Reports.
