Recent industry pressure applied and enforced through UKAS has created a wave of interest throughout the industry regarding non conforming samples and their transit and storage.
It has been 12 months since ACS Environmental Testing Ltd released the successful STB (Sample Transit Box). And we can report that after having transported thousands of samples throughout the year only once have we received a broken bottle. It appears an overzealous junior from a client placed one too many cool packs into the box. Lying loose from the integral cool pack inserts, perhaps with some predictability the frozen pack smashed the top of a 1.0ltr glass bottle clean off.
Interestingly, but of no use, the base of the bottle remained in its insert and arrived at our laboratory with sample still in that portion, testament to the stability of the box whilst in the couriers remit. ‘Unlike traditional cool boxes they stay upright during transit’
In addition to the STB we have taken other positive steps to improve our service.
Because of an increasing demand for our services and an internal desire to accommodate the mandatory UKAS concerns we have recently installed an additional refrigerated sample storage unit. The unit is temperature controlled to keep samples between zero and 4.0° and is a welcome addition to our facility as it allows us to manage customer samples in a more efficient way.
The increase in space allows us to hold samples longer than 28 days in a more controlled environment which means that clients can be sure that results from samples held for an extended periods can trusted.
