Geomembrane Testing

High density polyethylene (HDPE) is commonly used for geomembranes. It has broad chemical resistance and excellent UV resistance, but lacks flexibility and can develop brittle stress cracking at low stresses if not properly formulated. Geomembranes are rolled out with overlapping pieces to enable the joins to be welded.

Geomembrane Testing In Depth

At ACS Analysis we are well equipped to carry out a comprehensive range of tests to determine physical, mechanical and chemical properties of geomembranes. Most of the testing we carry out is accredited by UKAS.

Laboratory Testing

Our permanent laboratories provide a comprehensive range of tests on geomembranes.

  • Initial tear resistance
  • Density by the density - gradient technique
  • Carbon black content
  • Integrity of field seams
  • Integrity of field seams - 180ยบ peel strength
  • Integrity of field seams - shear strength
  • Index puncture resistance
  • Nominal thickness
  • Calculation of 2% secant modulus for polyethylene geomembranes
  • Microscopic evaluation of the dispersion of carbon black
  • Core thickness of textured geomembrane
  • Tensile properties
  • Asperity measurement using a depth gauge
